Dr Jan Otto de Kat

Jan Otto de Kat has worked since December 2012 for ABS in Copenhagen and is Technical Director in the Global Marine division. Current areas of activity include energy efficient design and operation, as well as environmental performance. He has worked as Senior Director and Head of Innovation in the Maersk Maritime Technology division of A.P. Moller-Maersk between 2007 and 2012.
From 1989 through 2006 he worked at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN), Wageningen, the last 7 years as Director of Research and Development. He was chairman of the Cooperative Research Ships and the Cooperative Research Navies forums. At IMO he chaired the working group for revision of the Load Line Convention.
He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in naval architecture and offshore engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and his B.Eng. degree in naval architecture from the University of New South Wales, Sydney.
